Bamboo is very similar to grass. Take care of it the same way you take care of your lawn. Add water when the rooting medium is about 80% dry.

Place your new plant in an area when there will be bright, but indirect sunlight, and away from vents. The bamboo can be potted in water or in soil; if soil is chosen it must be keep moist at all times. Make sure any water used is dechlorinated as well.

Bamboo is affected by the water you use. If the plant is hydroponic this is especially important. Use water that is fluoride and chlorine free. Hold off on fertilizing bamboo as the salt build-up can also create problems. Give it bright indirect light. Give this same care to any cuttings you take from this plant.

Taking care of your bamboo is pretty simple. First, make sure it has good light. Partial sunlight or full spectrum light bulbs are good. Also, use filtered water, or place crushed charcoal on top of the soil.

I have two bamboo plants that are in little pots. I was told to keep them out of direct sun light and change the water out about every two weeks.

Bamboo is a great houseplant and can be very long lived as it is so forgiving! You will need to keep the little pot topped up with water so that it is just visible over the top of the gravel. Occassionally rinse all the gravel to prevent greening.

You need to make sure there is water in the bottom with the rocks. Also, keep it out of direct sunlight. They also need to be kept around room temperature. For this reason they are a great indoor plant. You can also occasionally add a small amount of fertilizer to your bamboo.

Make sure that the pot it not to big or small for the plant. Do not put in in direct sun light. It should be in light but not sun. Water until dirt is moist. Make sure that the pot has drainage so the plant won't rot.

Put it somewhere that gets a decent amount of light. However, it doesn't necessarily need to be put by a window, it can just be on a desk that gets sunlight during the day. Also, just water it everyday until you can see the water almost spilling out of the pot.

What you have is Lucky Bamboo, which is not bamboo at all but related to lillys. Give it plenty of sun, change the water each week, and fertilize.

You need to take the plant to a greenhouse with you and let them see it and they will be able to completely tell you how to take the best care of it.
