In Firefox you right click within the toolbar, select customize and drag the "open a new tab" icon to the tool bar. In IE go to tools, internet options, tabbed browsing settings and check enabled tabbed browsing and enable quick tabs.

Opera provides Add button. In Mozilla Firefox you don't have to r-click and select OPEN IN NEW TAB. Just click the middle button above the link you want in newtab.

Goto the 'View' Menu, then hover your mouse over 'Toolbars' and click on 'Customize'. From there, drag and drop the relevant menu items on the toolbar.
