Rubber-back take up is a pain. Considering the wood floor underneath, you can try a cheap vegetable oil to dissolve the glue, but you can still expect alot of work.

There are special formulas which are sold at your local Home Depot which will help you soften the glue on rubber backed carpet squares. Don't try to pull it off on your own because it will damage your floors.

The only way to get the glue off the floor is to sand it down. Depending on the area you can do this with a handheld sander or a large industrial machine, which you can usually rent.

try softening it with steam. If you want to expose the wooden floor later on, i wouldn't reccommend any chemicals- they leave deep stains in the wood texture. You can sand off the glue marks, but not chemicals.

With a long bladed knife pull back the carpet and cut it lose from the glue. Then once you have all the carpet removed you then can apply an adhesive remover to the remaining glue and scrape it up.

If you are wanting to pull up this type of carpet, I would heat it first. This will make the glue soft so you will be able to remove it quickly.
