Some refugiums hang on the outside of the tank and some can be placed inside of the tank. Other refugiums are so large that they can be placed next to the aquarium. These require tubing and other connective parts. Most refugiums come with thorough installation instructions. There may be electrical plugs involved, be careful when working around water and electricity.

You will need to get the salt water pump that will allow you automatically pump salt water at the right mixture without having a unbalanced tank. You will also need extra cables and in order to get the tank properly installed. You will also need additional cords in order to get the aquarium attached correctly.

You must construct a filtration system seperating more aggressive spieces from the "refugium" (refuge tank). Water should flow into the refugium and must drain back into the original tank.

A refugium can be set up with two methods. A hang on tank refuge purchased from the fish store. A sump can be used for a refugium as well.

I would follow the directions on the box. All Aquariums have instructions for set up. I am pretty sure that the fish are not going to mind so much.

You will need to get the old water drain from the old aquarium. Then you will need to clean with a solution that you can get at your local pet supply store. Then you will fill your aquarium with salt water solution that you can purchase the tablets to form the aquarium.
