First you have to decide who you will invite, choose a theme that suits your guests, a menu, a date that permits you to accomplish everything, invite your guests.

You should start out by selecting a theme- black-tie, Hollywood glamor, or something else- then work on invitations. Then create a menu to go with the theme.

Formal dinner parties must first be announced. Announcements should be through nice letters in high quality paper. The formal dinner should also tell what to wear.

Start with an invitation list so you have a final number of guests. Then create a quick and easy dinner menu that includes an appetizing snack for those who arrive early. This could be simple like finger sandwiches or fondue. Then create a formal dinner menu that you wouldn't cook everyday; maybe something interesting from a cookbook that seems manageable.

Because you have never thrown a formal dinner party, one the first things you should consider is a event consultant or party planner. Their services will range in cost depending upon how lavish you want your party to be. However, if you've never done this before and want to do it right, you should not jump into this alone.

To throw a formal dinner party pick and nice location and make sure that the guest know that formal dress attire is required. Also, make sure that the invitations are really nice and the decorations are very well chose and in good taste. You can have someone cater the food or cook a nice dinner for the guests.
