Above all else, make sure the puppy does not associate the kennel or crate with something BAD. Don't put the puppy in the kennel if he or she chewed on something, urinated or defecated on the carpet, or other similar puppy blunders. Give the puppy a snack and say "Good dog!" when putting him or her in the kennel.

Keep the kennel door open with toys inside so that the puppy has only positive feelings towards it. Keep the puppy in the kennel with door closed for only short periods of time so he can nap and then be let outside to relieve himself right away. Also try feeding the puppy while he is in the kennel.

A puppy should be kenneled whenever you are not there to supervise its activities. The kennel should be big enough for the puppy to stand and turn around in but not so bug that it can dedicate a portion to go to the bathroom in.

The best way to go about kennel training a new puppy is to ensure that the kennel is the right size and is a comfortable area. Once this has been accomplished a command should be used each time the puppy is brought to the kennel so that it is learned.

Make the kennel and inviting place. Put a comfortable blanket and a toy in it. Start by putting the puppy in for a short time while you are in the room. Then increase the time gradually. Eventually do it with you out of the room. Never use it to punish.

Easiest way is bribery. Put food in the kennel when you want your dog to go in. When he goes in to eat say, "kennel" and shut the door.
