To be safe and legal,(Depends on the state) use a sledge hammer to drive an eight foot copper rod into the ground at least 10 feet from the source. Use a bare copper cable to connect the rod to the box. You can bury the cable to the rod.

You'd leave your service disconnect on the pole, come out of the bottom with Schedule 40 PVC, maybe 1 inch or 1-1/4 inch, bury it 12 inches
