You'll need to create a continuous stream of air through the water to prevent it from freezing. The solution depends on the size of the pond and your location.

If you live where the ice will freeze and the fish might die, it is best to move the fish to the basement for the winter. If the fish will stay in the pond over winter, you will need to buy a pond aerator & let it run continually.

It is entirely dependent on the size of the pond. With a small backyard landscaping pond, a simple pump will suffice. Make sure the sure of the water is being disturbed s this mixes tiny amounts of air in the water.

You will need to buy an aqaurium air compressor. Get the biggest one you can find. Install the outlet tube in the pond and run 2 hours a day.

You can install a fountain aerator that will run all season if you want. If the pond has a lot of algae, you might want to do it the old fashioned way: with a rake and muscle power. If the pond is deep, you can also install a bottom mounted aerator that will help.
