Maggots don't usually just appear, they need a food source. I suspect there is a severely infected injury underneath the fur of your pet. If it's gotten to the point where maggots are involved, the tissues are necrotic and a veterinary intervention is called for.

Take him to the vet. Maggots are present where there is dead tissue so your dog may have an open wound somewhere that you don't know about. If after the vet checks him out and he's all clear you can give him a bath with special shampoo from the vet.

Maggots don't thrive on fur. They grow from fly eggs laid in decaying material. Your pet's fur might conceal an injury. He may need to be examined by a veterinarian.

The dog needs to be seen by a vet to determine the cause, since maggots are attracted to rotting flesh. In the meantime, bathe and inspect the dog for injuries.

I notied the same thing yesterday - I'm thinking it's because they were attracted to feces stuck to his thick coat. He doesn't appear to have any wounds. Can't afford a vet now - what solutions can be applied?
