You should start by shopping around, check either your local blue books or try shopping online. Most common items like this are easy to locate with minimal research; easily accessible.

You can have it appraised by some local antique dealers. Your insurance agent may also have some reputable appraisers they use for just this sort of thing. You can check you phone book for local listings of Estate Appraisers in your area.

Once way to find out the value is by searching on the internet for different values. You can also visit an antique store and speak to the owner or buyer there. Another thing you can do is research some books on collectibles and antiques - you can find these books at most book sellers.

The best way to find the value of an antique is to take it to an Antique's Roadshow. They will appraise it for you.

Looking at what they are selling for online is one way to go about it, but that really might not be accurate. If you call a local antique shop or a shop that specializes in sowing machines not just fabric and tell them you are not interested in selling machine but are wondering what it retails for they will tell.
