If the bottom shell is convex meaning it goes out, it's probably a female. If it goes in, it's a male.

there are many ways of determining the sex of a turtle but I have found that the easiest way to determine the sex is by their bottom shell. Female turtles have a flat shell where as male turtles have a concave (scoops in) shell so they can mount the female while breeding.

In most cases if you examine the underside of the shell you will see that it is either totally flat (female) or it will have a sort of concave indent towards the back of the shell. This is designed for 'mounting' purposes.
