How do I determine the right outboard shaft length?

To determine the right length you often need to refer to the owners manual as they all vary. However if the boat is modified you will want to measure the length from the outboard motor to the bottom of the boat and then one foot beyond that should be good for most boats.

To determine the right length, begin measuring on your boat from the top of the transom. This is where the motor sits. Continue your measuring all the way to the bottom of the hull. On the outboard you choose this measurement off your boat is the same as the inside of transom clamp to cavitation plate.
