Since it is already retro, stay with that theme! As for decorations, use stark white towels and hand towels, and use white floor mats. Try to find a soap dispenser that has mirrors.

I am in a similar position: 50s black/pink tile in my apartment's bathroom that I cannot remodel. So I decided that since there was no way to make it look classy, I should embrace the tackiness. I have some pop art-y framed posters, pink and black towels/ bath mat, and a black zebra striped shower curtain.

Use your imagination and have simple drawings with ceramic paints or with beautiful glitter paints that stay long and are economic. These things are available in hobby shops.

Clean tile apply an etching chemical such as acetone or zylene. This will etch the surface, allowig paint to adhere. Apply oil-based primer; allow dry for six hours and apply one coat an oil-based enamel paint; allow to dry for at least 24 hours and apply second coat.
