Imagine the story as a movie, from beginning to end. Or at least view the current setting of the story and how it will progress. Then begin writing the description of that movie and drive it forward to the next "scene" or event. If you focus on the whole story's flow instead of paragraphs, you can write more.

You have to make your audience always wonder what is going to happen next. Instead of focusing on what's happening at the time, make your readers wonder what's going to happen on the next page. Every page should lead into the next one: What's around that corner? What's in the box? Will he meet his wife at the bar?

Forward momentum includes two elements: plot momentum and emotional momentum. What happens next and how the character feels about it are linked. So think about a variety of next steps for your plot and think about how your characters would react to that next step.

You can do that by having progressive plots with action, such as a decisive battle. However, character development also can help create forward momentum as it drives forward the writing.
