To get rid of blood stains, soak the stain in hydrogen peroxide until the stain disappears, then launder the garment as usual. This trick has always worked for me.

If it is on fabric you should try washing it with white vinegar and a little baking soda. This may leech the color out of the item as well as the blood though so be aware of that. If it is on carpet, use white vinegar and scrub it in with a toothbrush. Let it sit then rinse with water.

Do not apply heat to the stain, or it will set and you'll never get it out. Hydrogen Peroxide solution is good at removing blood from fabric because it eats up proteins. Pour some onto the stain, and it will fizz and heat up a bit, but dissolve away. Depending on the fabric, you can also use bleach.

The main thing to remember is that hot water will set blood in fabric. You will have to use cold if the item is fabric. Oxyclean is pretty safe but you have to activate the powder in hot water, then cool it before you use it to soak the stain. Leave it overnight. Then wash in fresh cold water.
