In many instances, an economist is sought out by employers, due to their specialized expertise of areas such as forecasting business trends, economics, etc. For an economist seeking a job, most find success with well-known headhunting and recruiting agencies - where clients of these agencies include many Fortune 100 companies and other leading top organizations.

Economists can work for banks, the FDIC, and non-profit policy think tanks. Many economists work for large businesses planning supply and demand based on economic projections, price point calculations, and determining the most profitable price point to sell the most product.
