Compression stockings allow your body to circulate blood. The legs and feet are the last place that the blood has to return to the heart and if it does not return, the bottom part of the body is subject to sores and damage.

Diabetes can cause fluid retention , mainly effected by fluid retention in the kidneys. The swelling , caused from fluid retention, can build up in the legs. The stockings allow compression , which in turn decreases swelling.
