Voltaire's real name was Francois-Marie Arouet. He took the Voltaire while writing his famous books, which included "Candide," a stinging criticism of passive optimism, and other novels, as well as a number of significant histories and books of poetry. His perspective that a wise monarch could help achieve the goals of the enlightenment had significant effect on encouraging Enlightenment Absolutists.

Voltaire was one of the main components of the enlightenment. He stood for religious freedom, free trade, tolerance of other cultures and much more. He wrote many books and plays, many of which were satire and critical of governments. The American founding fathers used many of his ideas.

Voltaire was instrumental in recording in writing and pushing the Enlightenment movement.He brought the movement to all of society by his writings.
