How did Poseiden become a god?

Poseiden was the son of Chronos, the King of the Titans before the Gods. He was swallowed whole by his father, as were several siblings, and was only set free when his brother Zeus defeated Chronos. He got his area of dominance, the Sea, after they had subdued the other Titans and divided things between the three strongest brothers.

Poseiden became a god because of the Titans. After the fall of these Titans, Poseidon was allotted the sea, therefore, he was from then on known as, the god of the sea.

Poseidon was born a god. His parents were Chronus and Rhea who were brother and sister gods that produced 6 children who in turn divided up the powers of the world when they grew up. He not only ruled over the oceans and water but also earthquakes and horses.
