Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying an order from God not to eat from the tree of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden. First Eve was tempted to eat the fruit and then Adam followed. It was not the act of eating a fruit from the tree that was sinful but the disobedience of Gods command.

Genesis tells how Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil that God had forbidden. This willful defiance of God was their sin.

God told Adam not to eat the fruit off the Tree of Knowledge. Eve allowed a snake to seduce her into eating the fruit, and she seduced Adam into doing so as well. Scholars debate as to whether this story is meant to be taken literally or metaphorically.
