A Holland Lop, or any rabbit, is thirsty when it appears to be searching for water. Rabbits go to known sources for water, so if it goes to a water bottle and licks repeatedly at the nozzle, it is thirsty. Rabbits need a generous supply of fresh water, especially in the summer, since they don't sweat.

It is difficult to tell if rabbits are thirsty. You should keep fresh, clean water available to your rabbit at all times. Rabbit water bottles are best for short-nosed, long-eared breeds like Lops. Rabbits are prey animals and will rarely let on if they are suffering from heat, thirst, pain, or hunger.

Rabbits drink when they are thirsty. Instead of trying to tell if it is thirsty you should leave water for it to drink at all times. If the rabbit is not drinking you can try changing how you give it water. i.e from a bowl or from a water bottle with a metal dispenser.

Rabbits should always have a clean bowl of water available to them so they can drink water whenever they are thirsty. Thoroughly clean out the water dish once a day.

You shouldn't need to know if he is. You should leave a bottle or dish of water in his change and change it every few days so it's fresh.
