You will know. The bark will all dry up and fall off and the leaves will also turn brown and fall off. You can also do a net search and it will pull tons of information for you that will be printable and you will be able to file it away for future use.

The best way to tell whether a tree is dead is to check some of the branches. If the branches still have moisture inside when you break them, they are still alive. If you dig underneath the bark of trunk and it is dry inside, your tree may be dead.

To tell if a tree is dead is very simple. Get a small knife and cut into the base of the tree. If the base is still green and moist the tree is not dead.

You can tell when a tree is dead if all the leaves don't seem to be filled with life. If the bark seems slightly mottled, that also is an indication that it is dead or very close to it. Another thing to watch out for is if it's growing any leaves or not.

when the leaves are all gone and the bark looks and feels funny then there is no hope but that is how I knew my tree was dead
