How can I recognize labor in goats?

As a goat's pregnancy nears its end, you should begin to notice behavioral changes. An increase or decrease in the amount of walking, laying down, and vocalizing, as well as more rapid breathing can all hint of the onset of labor. Thickening of the udders and softening of pelvic ligaments indicate birth is likely to occur within 24 hours.

Depends on the type of goat really, however the best thing you can do is watch for changes in behavior.

Look for the tail dropping. As a goat gets close to kidding its pelvic bone will start to separate causing the tail to drop. If the doe leaves and seems to want to be alone you should get ready for babies, within 4 hours or so.

When goats are in labor they will become increasingly uncomfortable and will be pacing around and pawing at the ground. Eventually they will start pushing and hopefully a baby goat will appear shortly after. If the goat is clearly in labor but becomes extremely distressed and no baby comes out call a vet.

Some times you will recognize it and sometimes you won't it completly depends on the nanny herself as to how many outward signs she shows when she is in labor because usually a goat has a short labor and usually the kids are bor between 11 at night and 3 in the morning.

More times than none female goats about to give birth will lay down. If they are isolating themselves from the rest, they are about to give birth. Another way to tell is to watch and see when they pass the mucus membrain.

Goats mostly go through labor in the middle of the night. Exspect them to moan alot towards the final stages of pregancy, and exspect utters to get massivly swollen.
