It can be made from anything. Any material of your preferance, a runner can be made. Take 2 pieces of material and put them together right sides facing each other. Cut to size, pin, and fold under the edge about .5 an inch and sew. Leave a small area open. Turn right side. Hand sew the open spot.

First measure your table and determine how long you need the runner to be. If you can sew by hand or use fabric glue. Go to the fabric store pick the fabric then simply make a 1/2 inch fold under the fabric and stitch or glue it in place.

Buy five place mats in two colors. Hand stitch them together and display. For holidays, spread out a woven neck scarf or rectangular silk scarf. Use a valance from a window drapery as a runner.

The best thing to do is choose the fabric and then wash and dry it and then lay it out on the table and mark where you need to sew.

Well, if you want to make a short runner, you need to get the fabric that is necessary. Seam all of the edges from the sides. Also, you can make embroidery provided you know how to do it.

If you are a weaver, you can make a table runner on a loom. If not, buy the appropriate length of fabric, cut to fit the size you need and hem all edges. You can make one of a plain fabric and embellish with hand painted objects or stencils.
