Watching someone else and having them teach you is the best way to learn. Practice yourself by placing yourself upside down on your head at the base of a wall. Steady yourself with you hands and kick your feet up until your back rests against the wall.

Start by practicing balancing on hands and head. You can do intermediate steps with knees on elbows to get the feel of balancing. As you progress, extend into a full hand and head stand with legs upright. You may want the support of a wall. After you have mastered this, move to just a hand stand, first with the wall.

Start with a tripod headstand to learn how to balance. The most important thing to remember when doing a handstand is keeping your hands flat on the ground. Concentrate on that first then practice "kicking up," this will take practice, so don't give up.

You should start with a headstand, up against the wall, with your knees balanced on your elbows and your head on the floor. Next, using the wall for balance, push the rest of your body up in the air with your hands. Lean your body against the wall. Go back down into a handstand. Repeat.

A good way to learn to do hand stands is to use a wall to support yourself until you can do them without falling over. Another way is to do hand stands in the shallow end of a swimming pool.

Start with tripod stands: Put your head and hands on the floor, put your knees on your elbows. Push up into a headstand. Once you can do this, try a handstand. Have somebody catch your ankles as you kick up into one, or do it against a wall until you feel comfortable doing it on your own.

When flipping yourself upside down, get a person to hold your legs steady. After a few more times, you should be able to hold yourself steady on your own.
