Practice, practice and more practice. Try to talking to as many people as you can during the day and bring up idle type chats with them. If safety allows it try to talk with total strangers you would be surprised how much that helps. Also when all else fails stand in front of a mirror and practice reading out loud.

The best way to improve communication is to improve listening. Most of us talk too much and listen too little. While someone else is speaking, we're planning what we're going to say next, instead of hearing the other person. If we don't listen, we can't communicate effectively.

Understanding the other person is the key to improving interpersonal communication. Listening to the other person's point of view, and carefully observing their reactions to what you say is vital.

Start by being a good listener. Focus on the other person and eliminate distractions (cell phone, etc). Ask questions for understanding such as "So what I hear you saying is... " or "Do you mean... " Make leading comments, such as "Tell me more... " or "And then... " It's okay to disagee but don't belittle or insult the other person.

Think about the way that you prefer people to communicate with you. How do you like to be treated, and spoken to? When you are speaking to others, keep this in mind, and treat them how you would like to be treated. Be kind, be honest, be understanding.
