To be honest, if you don't know a lot about the technicalities of game consoles, the easiest way is to take it to a game store to be looked at. These guys do exceptional work.

If the ps2 powers on but your games will not play, first you should clean your gamecd then try again. If the problem consist then you should try a newer game with preferably no scratches. If the problem persists then perhaps you PS2 requires maintenance.

By giving more details in your troubleshooting question? =P The most common problem with the systems is the dvd drive going out. This can be temporarily helped along with a lens cleaner but most times requires a replacement. Otherwise the issue could be anywhere from a wiring problem to the system just being old.

Sometime the ps2 optical laser can have some dust on it. You have to open the ps2 (there is a lot of guide on the internet) and clean the lens with some cotton or soft paper but be carefull; do not use alcohol or other fluid (such water or soap).
