How can I detangle feline fur?

My cat's fur gets so tangled and she screams when I try to brush her.

Wipe your cat gently with one of the pet wipes that you can get most pet products aisles. The conditioner in the wipe helps release some tangles. Then use both a comb and a brush to gently work on the tangles, as your cat allows.

Make sure you're trying to brush from the tips of the fur up to the tangle. If she still screams, try using a bit of hair conditioner. Massage the conditioner into the knot, gently separating the strands of fur from the tangle, then brush through. Always make sure to thoroughly rinse all conditioner from the fur when finished.

Just as humans do, cats need shampoo and conditioner to help with tangles. I suggest Earthbath because it's all natural and adds shine to your cat's coat.

If your female has really bad knots you might want to consider taking her in to be groomed. You can get an herbal sedative which will help keep her calm. Afterwards go to your local pet store. There are some great new combs out that groom kitty and keep them from getting knots if you use it daily.

You can use a spray bottle with warm but not hot water. Spray the fur in small sections and apply a leave in conditioner that is especially for cats. Do not use a human conditioner because it is not meant for animal's skin. Use a comb to brush through the hair, but make sure not to pull.

You can try a spray on de-tangler the people use. Spray on will cause less of a mess and less of a fight.
