It can be awful to grow up with an alcoholic parent. School guidance counselors often provide help for the problems caused by the parents.

Family meners are affected in many ways, financially and emotionally. Some alcoholics may lose their jobs which has a huge impact. Others become abusive mentally as well as physically. The best way that I see to help themselves is to go to meetings set up for families of alcoholics and meet with others in the same situation.

They are affected by the apparent lack of commitment of the alcoholic member. They can force the person to attend Alcoholics Anonymous as a means of coping.
