Furnace doesn't light with burner cover on, why is this?

A very good question, but one that varies by your AC type, so it could be considered "broad". I would suggest that you either consult your local Hvac Reapir man, or if you've still got it consult the user manual that came with your particular unit, model. Best of Luck.

Sounds like asking a question about an oil furnace. You may be asking question about Lennox pulse furnace. Oil furnaces, the orifice is plugged. Pulse furnace, the flapper is bad.

Since your furnace is not turning on, it seems that you are not getting the gas to be able to.
