Does my employer have to pay me if I miss work because I was sick?

You should check your employee handbook for what sick time benefits are available at your job. The US does not require sick pay leave. Only three cities have laws that require sick pay leave - San Francisco, Washington DC and Milwaukee, and even these three have stipulations.

He doesn't have to pay you unless there are sick time benefits in the employee contract or manual. If you have paid time off, your employer will generally allow you to use those days towards sick days but it's different with every employer. If you were asking if they need to legally pay you however, the answer is no.
