The proper place to hit a volleyball is the top side of your wrist nearest the thumbs. Initially, this will cause some discomfort as it is a bony area. But, as you practice and gain proper form, the discomfort fades away and there is no pain at all.

It does not hurt when you hit a volleyball. If you are new to the sport, I would suggest trying out a league at your gym. Also getting a volleyball at a store and practicing. At first it will sting a little but once you get used to itm you are good to go.

It hurts if the ball hits you but otherwise the only discomfort you will feel is from the constant spiking and stretching.
