The chicken pox vaccine is actually very effective and most children now receive it as a standard vaccination. Chicken pox can be somewhat dangerous in older individuals.

Chicken pox is uncomfortable, but not serious. However, adults who never had chicken pox can get shingles, which is a serious condition. Chicken pox is often thought to be better.

Isolation of the child is essential to prevent infection of other youngsters or vulnerable adults. It can be serious in patients receiving steroid medications for other illnesses. Chickenpox is also dangerous for unborn babies of women in late pregnancy. Such women should not care for children with chickenpox.
