The splitter is for the tv, phone and internet and is usually at the router. You do not need two phone lines. When the company comes they will hook everything up for you and using the internet wll not interfer with you phone use at all. DSL comes through the phonelines but does not interfer.

No, you only need one line. The internet signal (dsl) and the phone line run on the same line. the splitter you are referring to is a dsl filter so you can't hear the modem sounds while on the phone.

DSL stands for digital subscriber line, which is marketing term used for ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line). It works by splitting communication frequencies into 2 bands, which are transmitted on the same physical line. So 2 phone lines are NOT needed for DSL.
