Definitely have a cake with the Olympic rings on it. If you could find little sports figurines to go on top that would also add to the cake. In terms of activities you could go ice skating as that is a big part of the Olympics. Try and incorporate your son's Olympic interests.

Invite an Olympic hopeful to the party, if there are several invite the person in the sport your son most likes. As part of the party have the guests make the athlete cards of support. Your son could be getting thank-you cards from the athlete long afterwards.

Buy fake gold medals from a party store. Than set up a few events, such as, racing, swimming, etc. You can than give the gold medal to the winners or toys.

You could have the children compete in several sporting events. For the winner or each you can have a plastic medal or a badge for them. You want to also have prizes for the runner ups so that they do not feel left out. You could also create a obstacle course that the children can play on.
