It is not always necessary, but sometimes afer replacing a Crankshaft Postion Sensor recalibrating the system matches the PCM to the sensor.

Typically you really only need to do a re-flash if you have made major changes to the engine. Like the addition of several non-stock parts. As long as your installing an oem style crank position sensor then you should be fine. Although you should reset the pcm to clear any error codes.

Typically you would only need to re-flash and ECU when you are add new non-factory parts. That way the computer knows how to deal with these components and functions properly. However if the crankshaft position sensor is not an oem style one then you might have to re-flash it to get it to function.

You probably have starting or drivability issues for and engine light on to replace the crank sensor. If you have have replace the sensor is not reqired to flash the computer. usually only when you relace the pcm does it need to be flashed.

You most likely do not because most modern pcm's change automatically and adjust to the new poition of the device.
