In some people, the bacteria H. Pylori will cause an ulcer. It does this by damaging the mucous lining of the duodenum and the stomach. Without this barrier, these organs can be damaged by the stomach's acidic digestive juices. This is how an ulcer develops.

It is still a subject to debate whether helicobacter pylori causes ulcer. If a ulcer is present and the patient tests positive on helicobacter then usually antibiotics are started to eradicate it. Although it was long been stated that stress might cuase ulcer it is a less popular view now.

While stress (and spicy or acidic foods) contributes to ulcer formation, virtually all gastric ulcers show a concurrent H Pylori infection. It is thought they stimulate excess acid secretion.

The bacteria Heliobacter Pylori is a well known but also treatable cause of stomach ulcers. Stress is believed by the common public to be a cause but evidence proving this is lacking.
