They can, but only if you didn't wash your hands really good after cleaning out the litter box and then rubbed your eye. Pink eye comes from poor hygiene and as long as you make sure kitty is clean it shouldn't be a problem.

A cat can give you pink eye, but not the typical bacterial or viral pink eye. Pink eye from a cat would likely be the result of irritation. If you are allergic to cats or not, fur or dander (skin cells) from the cat entering your eye would be able to cause redness and itchiness.

I believe this is one of those "urban legend" things. I don't believe cats can cause pink eye. Pink eye is contagious between human beings. The only pink eye you can get from a cat is the red eyes you get from allergies.

Conjunctivitis is common in cats and kittens, but it cannot be spread to humans. Conjunctivitis in cats is caused by a strain of herpes virus that humans are susceptible to. If you have an allergy to cats many times your eyes will be become itchy, red, puffy, and watery when you come in contact with cats.
