Do bananas cause constipation in babies?

My baby has loose stools and my neighbor said to give him bananas.

They don't cause constipation. Bananas are part of the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Apples, Toast). These are all foods that help form and firm up stools because of the fiber in them. So bananas don't cause constipation they only help firm and bulk up stool. This helps with loose stools and constipation.

Mashed to a pulp then beaten to a cream bananas can be helpful for dysentery in children. They help normalize the large bowel function and can actually help relieve both constipation and diarrhea. However be warned that diarrhea in babies can be very serious and get rapidly worse.

Eating large amounts of bananas can cause constipation in both babies and adults, due to the chemical makeup of the banana.
