Lime moves downward in soil at an approximate rate of one inch per year. It is not recommended for root killing. There are products available to do this. Removing tree roots by digging them up is the best way to eliminate them, although some people burn them out. You can use an herbicide on a tree stump to kill it.

lime has acid in it , and acid isnt good for anyone and that includes trees. if somehow that acid could get to the tree roots than yes in a long period of time it could damage those tree roots and when that happens it probably will kill that tree
