Can you put a PO Box on your W-9?

Yes, a PO Box is an acceptable address for all federal tax forms. However, the p.o. box must be able to be confirmed as a valid mailing address for either you or your business. If you have any other questions about tax answers, most of the answers can be found on the IRS website.

Yes, you can. Technically, you are only allowed to if they don't deliver mail to your home address (street address). Check out the IRS instructions for filling out a 1040. It's clarified there. What's permitted on a 1040 controls what you can include on a W-9 &1099.

Thanks! It's on page 12 of the IRS's 1040 instructions, for anyone else -- at least that's the page number on the version of the instructions I'm looking at.  add a comment

Yes, you can put a post office box on your W9 form if that is your mailing address. Many taxable entities have mailing addresses of po boxes.
