Question by  cichoszn (37)

Can you provide me with some sample answers to use in an interview when asked to talk about yourself?

I am going on several interviews and never seem to know what to say, I would love some guidance on how to respond to personal questions.

When an interviewer says, "Tell me about yourself" she/he does not want to know about your hobbies/interests/favorite color. In thirty seconds or less, tell her where you went to school or received any relevant training, how that led to your previous positions, and how this new position is next on your career path.

Talk about some experience you've had, or something relevant about your life. Something that makes you stand out as in travel, how you were raised, knowing mulitple languages, why you want this job and think you'd do well at it. Basically anything you think your boss may want to know about you that is relivant to that job.

The first thing is to appear confident and not seem nervous. Stress your positive work experience, your flexibility, and nothing in your personal life that can hinder your progress. Emphasize your education and any special skills that makes you the best candidate for the job. Don't ever say anything negative about your former employees it makes you seem vindictive.

Talk about enrichment classes or new things you've been learning, hobbies, projects, etc. Employers are prohibited from asking questions about family, religion, etc. Practice in front of a mirror.

I am a outgoing, goal seeking person. I enjoy talking as well as listening. I have been told that I am an excellent leader and everyone around me enjoys working with me.

Sometimes employers ask open ended questions to learn more about you. It is always good to bring up positive experiences that you have had in the particular field that you are applying for. You want to mention things that will show them that you are knowledged and experienced. Bring a copy of your resume to refer to.
