If you have popcorn type ceilings scrape that off. You can make alot of difference by applying wood and making a tray ceiling and you can add a show off shelf near the top of the ceiling.

Well in general, people leave ceilings without decoration. But if you would like to decorate them you should add some engraved moldings on the ceiling. They will look very elegant.

Most ceilings are not "decorated. Leaving them white or light-colored will continue the feelings of space and height. You might hang a beautiful architectural mobile from the highest point of the ceiling to draw the up upward. Otherwise, leave the space open and clean of obstruction for a spacious, airy feeling in the room.

Cathedral ceilings look very nice if you can hang some ceiling fans. Also - glow in the dark star stickers for a more casual room, such as a child's bedroom, work very well with cathedral ceilings. Hanging small replicas of the planets (or bigger replicas of planets if it is a large room with a cathedral ceiling) works too.

One of the coolest things I saw was to add wood beams to accent the ceiling, along with a long chandelier. Or you could paint the ceiling a different color, maybe a little darker then the wall, this would accent the walls and the ceiling. Or you could add large crown molding.

cathedral ceilings themselves do not need decoration. The walls of your room should have color to the beginning of the ceiling and tall curtains can help control the height.
