Can you provide me tips on refinishing kitchen stools?

My kitchen stools are a light oak color, I would like to refinish them in a darker, almost black finish.

Well to stain them a darker color start by stripping them. Remove all the old sealer on the surface. Then sand own any imperfections. Then apply your dark stain as per the directions. After it has dried simple seal it with some polyurethane or similar sealant.

If they're real wood, it should be easy to refinish yourself. Sand the current surface right off with a rough grade sandpaper and stain the bare wood with the appropriate shade. Leave to dry for a day, then resand with a very fine grade sandpaper to get a smooth surface. Stain once more, then top with clear varnish if required.

The wood will have to be sanded down to remove all finishes. Then just apply a dark stain, wiping off the excess, and reapplying until you get the dark color you want. Then finish with a coat of polyurethane for protection and shine.

Remoce all the old stain with sandpaper or sanding. There are new paints for wood that come in black or you can use ebony stain and polyurathane the finish.

Get a good wood stain at a local supply store. Stain is slightly transparent and will keep the grain of the wood. The color you're after is called 'Ebony'.
