While it's possible to make much of your home brewing equipment, some items must be purchased. Hydrometers of very good quality should be bought. Plastic buckets that are of food grade quality must be used to prevent contamination. Plastic tubing is needed to drain the fermented brew into bottles.

It is not so difficult to make tour own brewing equipment, although some equipment may have to be bought, such as a hydrometer. The brewing containers needed can be found at most hardware stores, or even dollar stores. An airlock can be something as simple as a balloon and bottles with screw on tops can be reused or recycled.

Yes, all you need is a food grade five gallon bucket and something to use as an airlock for fermenting. This can be as simple as a piece of tubing with one end in the lid of the bucket and the other in a glass of water.
