There are several possibilities. If there is no motor operation it's likely an electrical failure. Start by checking the fuses for the convertible top. Then check convertible switches and motor with test light. The hydraulic system may have air trapped in system or an internal hydraulic pump failuer.

The convertable top on old Mustangs consume a disportionate amount of battery power. You may want to upgrade your car battery to a model labeled "industrial stength" to cope with the convertable top. Alternatively, you can go to any auto parts store and buy a "manual convertable converter kit" so you don't have to rely on the battery anymore.

Check to see if there is power at the motor with a volt meter or light. If there is no power, replace the fuse. Also check the hydraulic fluid level.

It could be something simple like a burnt out fuse. Check to make sure that all of your fuses are good before you do anything else. If the fuses are good then it could be a problem with the electric motor that raises and lowers the top. If this is the case you may want to go to a mechanic.

It may be due to problem in wiring system, fuse or relay. First of all check the fuses and relay and make sure that there is no problem with the wiring system. If you can't find any problem check with the pumps. If you can hear the noise then fill fluid. If no noise the pump may be faulty.

The actual mechanism that allows the top to move is the motor. Verify fuses are ok. Verify fluid for the shafts are ok. Check the actual motor is operating correctly through a volt check. Another test can be to verify nothing is obstructing the movement. Verify there aren't any snags or debris within the system.

Hi, have a 2005 Mustang GT and the top will not go down, however, if I hit the up button it moves, seem to hear a lesser sound when down is pressed than up, which seems to sound normal, Thanks, Larry

I dont know if you have checked this but the switch is the first thing i would look at. If no power is going to the motor then it can't work.
