Yes. The infection is not from the sun itself but if the skin is broken anywhere, then infection can get into your body. Healthy immune systems will fight off most infections. However, a bad sunburn can suppress your immune system. Sunburned skin should be protected either way. Immediately see a doctor if you suspect that you may have an infection.

Infection is not a direct result of sunburn, however sunburn can cause abrasions to the skin. Open abrasions and blisters can become infected.

It is possible to have so much sun exposure that you can get badly burned. If you get raised blisters these type of things can get contaminated and cause a really serious infection if not taken care of. Best advice, stay out of the sun. If not, use a good sun protection.

Any burn, including a sunburn, can get infected. It is not very likely, however, unless you have a very severe sunburn (one with blisters, for example).

Rick got a mild sunburn... no blisters.. Next day it got bright pink with crimson red rash that looked like paint spattered thru a screen. Nothing raised.. no blisters... and stings. Bacitaicin isn't doing anything for it. We are to wait another day and go to the doctor's. Infection?  add a comment

Absolutely, depending on the severity of the burn. A sunburn that is mild and doesn't blister has little to no chance on infection. However, a very severe sunburn that creates a third or sometimes even second degree burns must be treated properly in order to avoid infections. It is most common in burns that blister and are not well cleaned.

If the sunburn is severe and the skin is broken, it allows bacteria to enter which can cause infection. A doctor can determine if infection is present.

Yes you could get an infection from a sunburn. If the sunburn is serious enough you could have first, second, or third degrees burn.
