Global warming is the theory that the earth's temperature is rising due to increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is supported by scientific fact. One of the largest effects is the melting of the polar ice caps, which means that the oceans will rise and cover up low-lying land areas.

Most often the term global warming refers to the theory that the planet is warming due to man's influence on the environment. Statistically, temperatures have increased a very small amount in the past century but this is also the case on Mars, leading many to believe that solar cycles of the sun are the cause of miniscule temperature changes.
