Roses do not grow black in nature. A real rose that is black was fed dye through the roots. There are rose plants that are called "black," but are actually a very dark red. These roses are known as "Black Prince" or "Black Beauty." You may find it easier to buy silk or feather black roses.

It is possible to obtain black roses, they are available. You would probably need to pre order them as most florists do not keep them in stock. Be sure to order in plenty of time before the birthday as the florist may need to source them.

You can buy them online or at your local florist. Some are dead roses, while others are dyed or artificial. Bacarra roses are probably the closest living rose you will get to black; they are a dark red but will appear black in dim light. If you want live, you should order well in advance of the birthday.
