Depending on the felony yes. Any person with a misdemeanor felony will be allowed citizenship. Depending on the class of the felony,he may still have the right to have citizenship.

Applying for citizenship and being granted citizenship are two different things. You boyfriend can certainly apply, but it would be best to talk to an attorney before doing so. The attorney should be able to advise him on the best action to take to increase his chances of being granted citizenship.

If it was an aggravated felony commited after 11-29-1990 he would be barred from citizanship. For anything else he would need to wait 5 year to apply.

You can apply for Citizenship even if you have a felony. Your best bet would be to go through an immigration lawyer, to find what your options are.
